Jonathan Rottenberg directs the Better Outcomes Laboratory at Cornell University. His lab explores long-term functioning and well-being after depression and related conditions, with a particular focus on understanding good outcomes.

Before coming to Cornell, Rottenberg was Director of the Mood and Emotion lab at the University of South Florida where he was also the Director of Clinical Training. He received a BA from Harvard University, a MA in History from John Hopkins University, and his PhD in Psychology from Stanford University.

Dr. Rottenberg strongly believes in the values of science communication. His research has been covered in popular outlets such as the New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal and he has authored two trade books The Depths: The Evolutionary Origins of the Depression Epidemic (Basic Books) and Depression: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford). His most recent digital outreach project is Ever After, a video series about life after depression.
